Anything's In The Dark

In the soft glow of the street light
Day turns to night
Always

Voices gospel spinning bottles
Kissing listening
Always

Sweet songs release
The moment’s peace
Anything’s in the dark

Beyond reality and Memphis Tennessee
Something is shining in
And I can almost see

Watch and wonder
Spell I’m under
Main Street gleaming
Always
Dreaming awake
Until daybreak
Anything’s in the dark.

  1. I've read this several times over the past few days. Every time it takes me to a different place or conclusion. I saw Blue Hawaii this past weekend for the first time, and tonight, after reading your Song for Elvis, I'm struck by the fact that I prefer the black and white Elvis to the color Elvis. To me, your song speaks about the night, about darkness, about something shining through all of that, something that has to be seen, to be noticed. Just my interpretation, of course, but I do love how I a song, poem, lyric, or group of words strung together can mean so many different things to different people.

  2. Nice interpretation. I wrote this song from the standpoint of Elvis before anybody knew who he was...when he was a teenager dreaming about unknown possibilities...something greater.

  3. That's an important lesson to learn. You should never really let go of your dreams. No matter how far out of reach they might seem.
